Our belief system creates our reality!

Our belief system creates our reality

What if I tell you that right now you have the power to alter the current story of your life and steer it in the direction you want, would you believe me?  Through current evaluation of our belief system and a change of thought processes you can positively affect your life but also those around you. You will have the power to influence the way others see you. All it takes is belief that it’s possible and a strong burning desire to take your life in the direction you seek.

The history of our belief system

We all walk around with our beliefs system ingrained in us from our formative years. A belief system that has been passed on for generations which determine the way we see ourselves and the world around us. In addition it affects our behavior and our experiences. Our beliefs system originates not only from our parents but our teachers, peers, society and our communities. Their actions and views of the world are indoctrinated within us unknowingly. It derives from their own belief system and their experiences. We thereafter base our reality around this for our years to come, even when it doesn’t serve us anymore. Firm beliefs are created simply by experiencing something repeatedly over a period of time. It then becomes the truth for us.

How our belief system work

Is there something that you believe, that if you stopped believing it, your life would be better?

BELIEF – I CAN’T BE HAPPY UNTIL MY ENVIRONMENT AND THE PEOPLE IN IT CHANGE

This is a simple one that will resonate with so many. The reality however is that you will be waiting a long time if not forever to be happy. People don’t change unless they choose to recognize and admit that they need to change.

The change needs to start with you and your thinking. Your happiness is determined by what you think. Every thought we have creates something, a thing, emotion, state or feeling. Thoughts are known to have the highest frequency of energy so they are very real and powerful. Therefore what we think we create, an emotional state, feelings and beliefs. We therefore create our own reality. Our environment and/or the people in it aren’t what causes your unhappiness. It is what you choose to believe to be true that determines your feelings about them.

Examples of how our belief system influences our mental state

Let’s look at these scenarios taken from an article:

  • My partner broke up with me – BELIEF: I am not enough; no one else will ever love me – so I am unhappy
  • My partner broke up with me – Belief: We wanted different things, I will find someone whose values are in line with mine – so I am happy and relieved

We have no control over anyone, the world or our environment. We certainly however have control of the beliefs that dictate our thoughts.

WHAT EFFECTS DO OUR BELIEF SYSTEMS HAVE ON US?

Beliefs control every aspect of our lives. Think about this for a second, how you communicate and interact with your partner. Do your thoughts and actions not stem from your beliefs having watched your parents interacting with each other?  It also effects how you choose to bring up your kids, what career path you choose and how you see yourself. It determines your self-confidence, your views on money,  whether you achieve your goals, your attitude, your habits and behaviour.  In addition to this it also affects your income potential, your choice in the company you keep and so much more. Remember I said it earlier…Your Beliefs Create Your Reality!

How many times have you sat down and thought about starting something new. Such as your own business, a hobby, a relationship or applying for a position you really wanted. Feelings of excitement, happiness and euphoria kick in. Only moments later to then be clouded by, “what if I fail”, “what if I am rejected”, “what if they don’t like my product or me”? These are negative, limiting and self-sabotaging beliefs that are preventing us from reaching our true potential.

HOW DO WE KICK THESE TO THE CURB?

  • By taking action!
  • Start questioning your negative thoughts and feelings, whilst trying to ascertain from which beliefs they are originating.
  • Write down these beliefs and ask yourself what is the positive intention behind these beliefs and whether these positive intentions still apply to your current life
  • Seek assistance to help you instill more empowering beliefs
