Why is it important to focus on your mental well-being? In order to truly do this question justice let’s first focus on the power and magnitude of your mind’s responsibilities.
Your conscious mind is made up of your willpower, creative thinking, and logical, rational, and analytical thinking. Your subconscious mind controls your beliefs, thoughts, emotions, perceptions, desires, and conditioning.
One’s mind ultimately determines the levels of success that a person can achieve in their lives based on their conditioning, beliefs and how they see themselves. When there is turmoil in the mind, it advertently creates turmoil in your body.
Let’s unpack that some more.
How does our mind affect our health?
During the course of your life, you come across all types of people and situations. Some of them can be very toxic to your well-being. For example, a parent that abandoned you or who was an alcoholic, a child that bullied you, a “friend” who kept putting you down, or a loved one dying traumatically or unexpectedly.
These occurrences create feelings; emotions inside of you that are often negative. Most times you have no way of processing or dealing with them so you suppress them. You ignore these negative feelings and hope they will eventually pass.
Unfortunately, it never really leaves you. Throughout life, you will have triggers that constantly bring these emotions to the surface which leaves you feeling helpless, frustrated, anxious, or lonely. You lose interest in exercise or don’t have the energy for it and instead, you turn to comfort foods or other bad habits.
Over time this will have adverse effects on your body such as high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, increased weight gain or other stress-related issues. Free your mind and you will have increased energy and drive to live a more fulfilled, happier and healthier life.
Gaining confidence in every aspect of your life
Confidence is directly linked to how a person feels about and perceives themselves. If, over time, you have allowed other people’s opinions of you to dictate how you see yourself then that is what you will accept your self-image to be.
I had a client who came to me because of her low self-confidence, which directly impacted her personal and professional life. In the past, her extended family members picked on the colour of her skin and weight.
This weighed heavily on her throughout her childhood and into adulthood. Despite achieving success in her studies, which should lead to a great career, and having lost weight, every time she looked at herself in the mirror she only saw herself as being dark and fat.
Becoming aware of and changing the narrative of what you tell yourself about yourself will allow you to gain confidence in every aspect of your life.
There is this misconception that working on your mind means that something is wrong with you. The reality is that most successful people with drive and ambition enlist the assistance of life coaches. They understand the power of the mind when achieving their goals.
They invest in themselves ensuring that nothing holds them back from being their best.
